Cloned Cat Had Babies

Forbes.com reports that the world’s first cloned cat just became a mother — without test tubes. Copy Cat, who was cloned by Texas A&M University researchers in 2001, had three kittens in September. The father is Smokey, a naturally born tabby who was brought in to mate with CC. Two of the kittens came out looking like their mother, while the third has a gray coat like his father. Texas A&M is known for cloning other animals such as cattle, swine, goats, horses and deer.

So if you’re a newborn kitty, to a half cat, half clone - what the heck does that make you? Some kind of supercat? You would be called a mutt in the human world, or…dog world, too.

Well, “CC” (short for Cloned Cat, or Carbon Copy) looks adorable. I’m kinda fascinated with the cloning process. I guess if I had a cat and he died, I’d be pretty sad, and I would probably want to clone him. But I’m not sure if I can afford $50K. Yikes! Yes, I know it’s anti-nature and all the moral stuff, but I’m fascinated that science has gone this far in creating another life. It’s really interesting if you think about it from a scientific perspective (minus the moral and religious ones.) Anyway, so I did a little research and as it turns out, CC was born to a genetic mother, Rainbow, and surrogate mother, Allie; so you can see “CC” possessing a bit of each one’s characteristics. How cute!
