OK, everyone’s talking about the Oscars so I thought I’d give you a nice little break from it all by giving a report on another case of stupidity - my most favorite kind of case.
A 42-year-old man is facing up to four years in prison for allegedly lying to beat a $215 traffic ticket. A San Mateo County, Calif. jury convicted Andrew Bamberg Friday of felony perjury and preparing false evidence for traffic court. Bamberg was ticketed in 2004 for allegedly running a stop sign in Redwood City. Prosecutors accused him of presenting photographs in court from a different intersection and later lying about the photos. A lawyer for Bamberg says the officer who issued the ticket wrote down the wrong intersection.
You know, beating the system can be fun and make you the smart guy sometimes, but there’s a time and place for everything, and you have to take into account the pros and cons. I mean, for anyone who’s really smart he would know that lawyer fees and risks could end up costing way more than a single traffic ticket and traffic school. I guess that wasn’t the case for this idiot, whose real cost is 4 years in prison instead of just forking up 200 bucks. Perhaps while in prison he can read all of Dr. Phil’s self-help books.
