OK, so you’ve probably heard by now that Richard Gere is under fire (literally, since the Indians are burning effigies of him) over the “obscene kissing act” he made with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty during an AIDS campaign.

Several complaints were filed by attorneys:

In one of the court complaints, attorney Poonal Chandra Bhandari claimed the actors committed “an obscene act” in a public place, which is deemed unacceptable to India’s conservative society, according to the AP. In another complaint, two lawyers filed against Shetty and private TV channels for broadcasting videos of the kissing incident. These types of complaints against celebrities are said to be common in India and are often launched by people seeking publicity.

Man, you’d think them attorneys would have better things to do but apparently, complaining over something like this is more exciting than focusing on the issue at hand - AIDS. I’m not sure whom I should “defend” - this whole thing is just ridiculous. Richard Gere is stupid for not being “culture-sensitive” and pulling what he thinks is “entertaining.” Hello - not every country has a sense of humor. But the Indians are being blinded, too, for not seeing the big picture and what Gere and Shetty are trying to achieve with the campaign. Now, all his Tibet work will go outta the window because people will always remember him as “that horny guy that kissed Shilpa.”
