People reports that Maggie Gyllenhaal has been selected to replace Katie Holmes in the role of Rachel Dawes in the next installment of Batman. But she ain’t no Katie - she’s much better:

I’m not walking into Katie Holmes’ performance. I’m thinking of it as an opportunity to play somebody who’s alive and smart. Chris (Nolan the director) asked me to do this because he wanted me, not because he wants some generic lady in a dress.

So pretty much, Katie Holmes is dead and dumb, so replacing her was kind of an easy choice. Katie didn’t do much in the last Batman, anyway. It was no Oscar-winning performance that’s for sure. Replacing her with an elephant would’ve done just fine, too.
